Transition Day & “Währungslabor”

IMG_3051a

For the meeting of Transition Town Berlin & Brandenburg last May, we tried for the first time playing the CurrencyLab game entirely in German language.

An official translation is in the plans, but for now we just did on-the-spot translation using as a base the cards in English. We had quite a lot of people in attendance and decided to play in groups instead of individually. This was also a first, and it worked out pretty well.

The discussion was very lively and creative. My favorite move was by the group who used a Joker card to propose a strategy of “burning part of our currency”. They were very convincing and the strategy was positively voted by the other players.

After the burning of imaginary money, Transition Day activities continued with a visit to the local community garden and a presentation on how toilets can be designed for the circular economy, among other themes. Here a recap of the day by the Transition Town Pankow team.
